How to Tell If You Need a Water Softener

Not everyone is going to able to tell the difference between hard and soft water. Fortunately, there are several warning signs that help make that distinction and here’s a glimpse at how to tell if you need a water softener installed in your home.

First, it is important to identify the issues that are a result of hard water. Homemakers experience a good deal of problems with hard water. One of those problems is that hard water leaves deposits of soap detergent on clothes during the washing process. This can result in the dulling of colors. If you are not sure whether or not your water is hard, drop some detergent into some water. If that detergent does not lather up in the water, then your water is hard. That will also require double the amount of detergent when washing clothes.

In the bathroom, hard water leaves evidence of soap scum. Hard water is also rough on hair and skin during the bathing process. Dry skin is one sign that your shower is dispensing hard water. The problem is that there is an abundance of minerals in the water.

Hard water also causes issues in the kitchen, leaving dishes and glassware both spotty and streaky. The use of soft water can fix all of those issues.

As much as it can be a cosmetic issue, hard water can also impact the plumbing in a home. Hard water has a tendency to become slimy. That kind of water running through a home plumbing system will eventually cause a buildup of mineral deposits. This is why it streaks glassware and dishes. Even windows can become stained when washed with hard water.

The buildup of hard water in pipes can become very problematic. It slows down the flow of water and a lack of water pressure is noticeable throughout the home. What happens is actual scale deposits wind up clogging the pipes. That could be a costly expense to fix if left unattended for too long. When you notice a lack of water pressure, it’s time to check your water as it could be an imminent warning sign that it is hard.

Brown Well Supply can cure your home’s hard water problems with the installation of a CSI water softener. Also offering well repair, well pump service and the installation of water filtration systems, Brown Well Supply can accommodate every homeowner’s water system needs.
